It takes inhuman amounts of PR slight-of-hand to put a positive spin on Medal of Honor’s critical reception, which caused EA’s shares to drop and was described as “a black eye for EA management” by Cowen and Company analysts Doug Cruetz and Adam Noily, in a post-release assement titled “Early Medal of Honor reviews look decidedly Tier 2.”

From an EA press release issued today:

Medal of Honor is set to ship this Friday in the UK and the rest of Europe, and has already earned massive acclaim amongst some of the world’s toughest critics. Zoo Magazine gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 while Gamesmaster scored it at 85% stating that it is “more realistic than Call of Duty”.

It amazes me that anyone could keep a straight face when reading the words “world’s toughest critics” and “Zoo Magazine” together, let alone writing them. I guess the fact that IGN and Gamespy, two outlets that people actually care about (the latter of which is mentioned in the very same press release for naming Medal of Honor the Best Multiplayer award of E3 2010), gave the game a 6 out of 10 isn’t really something they’re proud of.

GameZone gave the game a 7, which by regular game blog standards is a 12. Take that, Zoo Magazine!
