NEW DRAG RACING CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO FLAG OFF

The 2010/2011 Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship flags off this Wednesday (October 20, 2010) with the season’s opening round at ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’.

The event is being organized by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club in collaboration with the Bahrain Motor Federation and Bahrain International Circuit.

Following the huge success of the season’s maiden ‘Test and Tune’ session held earlier this month, all indications project that this year’s championship will be one of the hottest contested in years, with participants coming from all over the Gulf including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and others.

Another evening for testing will be held on Wednesday (October 20) evening, from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m., kick starting the first round’s events.

Qualifying will then take place on Thursday (October 21) from 7 p.m., which will determine the head-to-head pairings for all the racing action on Friday (October 22).

Yasser Abdullah, Secretary at the Bahrain Drag Racing Club, is confident that the opening round of the season will see a huge turnout of competitors, especially following the field of 118 cars and 10 motorbikes that participated in the previous test, eager to get their racing machinery ready for the forthcoming championship.

Abdullah praised the efforts of the Bahrain Motor Federation, under the chairmanship of Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, for their continuous support of the Bahrain Drag Racing Club, especially for providing the cash prizes for the season’s winners, which would raise the enthusiasm of the participants for the coming year.

Abdullah also thanked Bahrain International Circuit for their efforts in preparing for the new season, especially with the renovation work conducted on the International Automobile Federation (FIA)-sanctioned quarter-mile drag strip.
