HUGE TURNOUT IN ‘TEST AND TUNE’ AHEAD OF DRAG RACING SEASON-OPENER
Bahrain International Circuit, ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’, hosted a busy yet very successful ‘Test and Tune’ on Wednesday night to kick start events in the first round of the 2010/2011 Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship.
Over 90 participants from all over the GCC flocked to the Sakhir race track for the weekend’s crucial testing session. They were all focused on getting their drag racing challengers fully ready for Thursday’s (October 21, 2010) qualifying and Friday’s (October 22, 2010) races.
Among those who took part were drivers from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE. More than 70 cars and another 20 motorbikes were involved in the testing, making for a very busy evening at the circuit’s International Automobile Federation (FIA)-sanctioned quarter-mile strip.
The round’s events are being run by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club (BDRC), in cooperation with the Bahrain Motor Federation and Bahrain International Circuit.
Over the weekend, the region’s top drag racers will be battling it out for pride and a place in the top three of their respective competition categories. They will also be hoping to take home a share of the attractive prize purse allocated to winners by the championship organiser.
This season, each round will feature cash winnings worth a whopping BD24,850. The complete prize fund for the entire six-round championship is a mind-boggling BD149,100, which is among the highest in the region
